Just keep learning…
You talk to me, you get a reading list, that’s just how it is. Leaders are learners. You cannot lead – or coach, for that matter – effectively and well, thinking you already know everything.
The challenge comes with – what to learn next? How many podcasts to subscribe to, how many books can one read in a quarter, in a month? How many years of content are created every second? How do you keep up with everything?
Yup. Overwhelming.
These cards started as my own tool to retain at least some of the tidal wave of knowledge I was interacting with all the time. A never-ceasing onslaught of conversations with clients and fellow coaches, conferences, books, podcasts…. I’ve always been terrible at taking and reusing notes, but the cards helped me. Then people started asking about them, and wanted to know what was the inspiration behind each. So I started writing. First at random, lately in a more structured fashion. I found out that leaders are using the cards as a micro-learning tool for them and their teams.
“We pick a random card at our weekly meeting and talk about it for a bit.”
“We played the card game at our annual (leadership meeting), used it as an icebreaker, got some good laughs and learnings from that.”
“I love my card time, and more often than not the “random” card I receive is EXACTLY what I need to read that day.”
I am touched, every time, hearing or reading such feedback. People find it valuable! It is helping them! It motivates me to write and share even more.
We now have, besides the website, printed a deck of cards to shuffle through or play a game. There is an on-line version of the games at theceogame.com. Thanks to Ged, we have CardCast.ca, a podcast where we pick a card at random and just talk about it. And yes, there will be (perhaps by the time you read this, there already is) a book.
All of those forms have a single purpose – help the reader pick a small piece of content they can consume right there and then, and either discard, have a conversation about, or to follow down the rabbit hole. There is always a thread of related topics, books, or a podcast episode to follow – the rabbit hole runs deep!
I hope you enjoy my cards. For as long as you do, I will maintain them (all the digital stuff is and will remain free) and build the content out more. All I ask for is interaction – drop me a note on how you use my content, and what effect it has!
Happy reading,
Milan
